Anyone who knows my roommate will be able to tell you how much she LOVES garlic fingers. I have never seen anything like it – every time she craves something or wants to order out – it’s always the same – garlic fingers. So yesterday when she announced she was going to clean the whole house I was happy to respond – if you do that I’ll cook whatever you want for dinner – I admit I was still surprised when she said she wanted garlic fingers.

The Marlborough Man has a few “annoying” doesn’t likes. Most of them I can generally work around, sometimes I find that calling the dish something different then it is helps. Once of his favourite doesn’t likes is potato salad. He doesn’t like the creaminess of the potatoes and he doesn’t like the mayo in with the potatoes. So I researched and found a few ideas to take the “idea” of potato salad and turn it into something other then potato “salad”. So I called this roasted potatoes with bacon dressing.

I have to admit that these little guys were more delicious then I had anticipated them to be. I had never had elk before and the ground elk I bought at Noggins Corner @ Alderney Landing (from Martock Glen) turned out to be more delicious then I’d expected. The meat was very rich without tasting gamey (an effect of a farm raised diet) and would have made delicious burgers on their own. If you like a juicy burger then you should incorporate some additional fat into it. The elk on it’s own had a fair amount of fat, but for a juicy burger more would be required.

Last Saturday at the Market I bought a smoked chicken and needless to say it got me really excited. When I got home, I could not decide what to do with it. I knew it had to be delicious but I didn’t want to limit it to one delicious fate. The result on the first night was smoked chicken pizza. But we couldn’t decide one what kind of pizza we wanted… Decisions, decisions, life it tough. The result was one cream based and one tomato based chicken pizza.

Finished Pork Loin

For the main meal we had pork. I chose pork because it’s economical (aka cheap) and seeing as I’m unemployed and all….. Also because I wanted to do a roast, and I figured right after holidays everyone would have been turkied-out. After asking around a lot of people here do turkey for their holiday meal, and chicken is too similar to turkey. Beef would have been amazing… But the economical thing again.

So it’s been a while since I’ve posted and I’ll admit, I even put off writing this. Seems that I’m lacking some serious inspiration these days in the cooking department. Even though I just finished an awesome bread baking class that gave me loads of inspiration, I have also recently found out that I’ll be out of work at the end of this week and that is seriously deflating my sails. Not that I won’t find another job, but the stress of money until then, as well as Christmas around the corner, has drawn me back into my old comfort foods (breaded chicken, with mashed potatoes corn and gravy!, burgers, and pasta with mushrooms and sausage).
